Potato Please Pavel Story: Manage Money and Replies

Follow Pavel's letters in Potato Please, weigh his money requests, review your mail, and learn which story clues and choices matter before the train ending.

01

Read the Request and Keep Track of Your Reply

When Pavel asks for money, read the request and choose Send if you want to fund it, keeping a note of the response you select. Review the correspondence in your mail log before the train, because his later letters provide useful clues about the story your earlier choices have shaped.

02

Balance Pavel's Requests With Your Upgrade Budget

Pavel is your son, and his letters arrive as the shift progresses. He describes experiences away from home and sometimes asks for advice or assistance. Read the situation before choosing a response, rather than treating every letter as another equipment purchase.

Money spent on Pavel's requests competes with money available for upgrades. If helping him is your priority, leave room for that choice before spending on optional equipment. Base the decision on the request in front of you and your current priorities, rather than assuming that every spare bit of money should go straight into the production line.

For achievement planning, do not use payment history as your only test of Pavel's outcome. Players discussing Your Own Executioner report different approaches to sending money. Keep track of your responses and check the later correspondence before deciding which path your save has taken.

Read, Respond and Review Your Correspondence

  1. Read each new letter from Pavel as it arrives. Identify whether he is asking for money, advice, or another kind of assistance before choosing your response.
  2. Choose the response that fits your intended approach to his story. His correspondence involves decisions across the game, so give the wording your attention before committing.
  3. Write down the reply you selected in your own notes. This gives you a reliable reference when you later compare the letters with the decisions you remember making.
  4. Open your mail log before reaching the train to reread Pavel's correspondence. Pay particular attention to his latest letter when checking where his story has led.
  5. Review the latest Resistance message alongside Pavel's letter. Player guidance uses these messages together as a checkpoint before the final destination choice.

Spoilers: Read Achievement Advice as a Proposed Route

The Steam player achievement guide recommends Send for Pavel's money requests and Tell what you know in the Director's Questions correspondence when pursuing its proposed Your Own Executioner route. These are player-authored recommendations, rather than developer-confirmed requirements. Because player accounts differ about the necessary choices, use your recorded replies and the later letters to assess your save.

A player explanation also connects the achievement to teaching Pavel obedience to the government and his superiors. That makes the advice you send relevant to the proposed story path, alongside financial requests. Read the actual response options carefully instead of treating a money payment as a substitute for the rest of the correspondence.

Spoilers: What Pavel's Late Letters Suggest

Before the train, look for what the latest messages actually say about Pavel. The Steam player guide uses the following correspondence as clues to his path. Treat these as checks on your current story state, rather than reply options you can select at the railway.

Letter or MessageReported MeaningWhere to Check
Pavel's last letter mentions a school near the capital. The Steam player guide treats this as a sign of the state-loyal outcome.Reread Pavel's latest letter in your mail log before reaching the train.
A Resistance message says, "Your son is with us."The Steam player guide identifies this as a different outcome from the state-loyal path.Check the latest Resistance note alongside Pavel's correspondence in the mail log.

Spoilers: The Choices a Train Save Can Still Change

A manual save at the levers in the train cab lets you revisit the main destination choices. Each destination leads to its own route ending and achievement. You can choose among these routes without changing all your earlier replies to Pavel or the Resistance.

Keep Earlier Replies Separate From Ending Replay

Golden Horn Studios added the ability to replay the ending from finished saves in Hotfix 1.0.1. That developer-confirmed feature lets you revisit the ending, but it does not establish a way to edit Pavel's earlier replies. The Steam player guide warns that his fate depends on correspondence across the game and is already shaped by the time you reach the ending.

Keep a manual save at the train controls if you want to explore other destinations. If your concern is an earlier letter, check for a save from before that decision instead of repeatedly changing the final route. Preserve useful earlier saves while the correspondence is still unfolding, and use your reply notes to remember what you intended to compare.

When reviewing a late save, answer separate questions: what do Pavel's latest messages say, and which destination are you about to choose? The correspondence gives you the player-described clues to his path, while the train controls choose the main route ending. Checking both helps you avoid expecting a different destination to rewrite the letters already received.
